Read what is not shown
A listing with five photos of the front and none of the ports is telling you something. Missing angles do not prove damage, but they create uncertainty. Uncertainty should lower your offer or trigger a question.
Ask one specific question at a time. Sellers respond better to 'Can you show the charging port?' than a long interrogation.
Translate seller language
'Untested' often means the seller does not want to guarantee function. 'Worked last time' means it is not tested now. 'Easy fix' means the seller chose not to fix it before selling.
These phrases do not always mean avoid, but they should move the item into a higher-risk price category.
Keep a walk-away number
Before negotiating, decide the maximum total cost after shipping, tax, missing accessories, and likely replacements. A deal that crosses that number stops being a deal.
Listing checklist
- Missing photos requested
- Untested claims treated as risk
- Shipping and accessories included in price
- Return policy read before checkout
- Walk-away price decided first
